Visitors to the Annual Art Exhibition staged by Oswestry & District Society of Artists were impressed by the diversity f styles and subjects painted by local members.
Local artistic talent was also praised by Oswestry’s Mayor, Councillor Sandy Best, when she opened the exhibition at the town’s Memorial Hall.
Councillor Best was asked to pick her favourite postcard sized painting, a new display this year. She chose a miniature painting entitled “White Begonia” by Ellesmere artist, Lesley Fisher, who received a bottle of bubbly as her prize.
The painting by internationally known artist, Ian Fennelly of Hoylake , was won in the draw by the Barkers, an Ellesmere family, who were delighted with their raffle prize. Ian generously donated the line and wash painting after giving a well received demonstration to ODSA members at the cricket club.
Visitors were asked to choose their favourite painting from over 200 pictures on show. When the votes were added up, Julia Benning’s painting of a dog, Black Beauty, came out on top.
The Society has recruited a number of new members thanks to the exhibition and now looks forward to the next time they can put their work on public display in November.
