Annual General Meeting of Oswestry & District Society of Artists
Warm tributes have been paid to husband and wife team, Colleen and Bob Sayers, who are stepping down from their roles within a local art group. Bob is retiring from his position of Exhibition Secretary and Colleen is handing over her role as Chairman but will remain on the Committee for the next year.
They were thanked for their many years of hard work at the Annual General Meeting of Oswestry and District Society of Artists held at the Memorial Hall.
It was acknowledged that they would be a hard act to follow, particularly in the organisation and preparation for the two major exhibitions of the Society at Chirk Castle and the Memorial Hall in Oswestry.
In recognition of their service, Colleen and Bob were given a £50 book token, a bouquet of flowers and honorary membership. Colleen thanked members for their gifts and told them how important ODSA had been to her and Bob when they moved to this country from South Africa.
Oswestry artist, Christine Taylor, takes over as Chairman. She told the meeting she welcomed the challenge and looked forward to the year ahead. An encouraging sign was the number of new members who had recently joined the Society.
“It will be part of my job to welcome them and perhaps encourage new blood onto our hard working Committee”, she said.
Chris has been Programme Secretary for a number of years and she was thanked for the interesting and varied programme she had organised. Her job will now be taken on by Lesley Fisher.
It was reported that following last year’s AGM, a sub Committee had been formed and a website had now been set up for the Society.
At the end of the meeting a short art quiz was organised with refreshments to follow
